CSIR UGC NET stands for National Eligibility Test conducted by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – University Grants Commission. What Is UGC NET Exam ?

The UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is an exam conducted by NTA to determine eligibility for Assistant Professor positions and the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges.

Category 1: Award of JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor

Category 2: Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D.

Category 3:Admission to Ph.D. only

Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in Masters Degree or equivalent examination from recognized universities or institutions Candidates who have appeared or will be appearing at the qualifying master’s degree and their result is awaiting. Such candidates must complete their PG examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, falling which they shall be treated as disqualified

The candidates having passed a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed.

A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) . The candidates qualifying in the NET, based on a four-year undergraduate degree, will be eligible for the award of the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for admission to the Ph.D. The candidates qualifying in the NET, based on a four-year undergraduate degree, will not be eligible for appointment as Assistant Professor.

The candidates who are pursuing Four Year/8 Semester Bachelor’s Degree Programme and are in their last semester/year may also apply for the test.
